Here's you chance to run the Concrete Monster on Feb 14. Run in the footsteps of the greats - Lydiard, Snell, Halberg etc.....

I want the Ironman athlete's to run it in particular. It is a rite of passage. I'm just bummed I wont be able to sit at the top of the monster and watch the newbies faces as they hit the top. I'll be in Kinloch watching the Sprint Tri nationals.

This will be your last big run before Ironman, so it's good to nail it and feel great by the finish. Trust me, you don't want to start out too fast in this run.

It's a 2:20-2:45 run depending on who you are, and it comes to about 27km. You can add a bit more on if you feel up for it when you get back to the end, but to be honest, I've only done an extra bit once, and it wasn't very enjoyable.

You want to be on the road early as you can because Scenic Drive can get busy, so I suggest a 7am start. Make sure you have enough gels and drink with you for the journey. There are a couple of points you can get water, but it is likely to be hot and you don't want to come off the run dehydrated and drained as this usually ends in reduced recovery and injury. The run leaves from the Toilet Block at the intersection of Titirangi Road & South Titirangi Road.

The route for the run can be found here. Make sure you print off a copy and are familair with it because you don't want to get lost, and find you have to run up more hills than you need to.
